Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme began his adventure with business in 1864 by establishing a porcelain and antique shop in Dresden. Part of the business was also a porcelain painting workshop. Already in September 1872, he decided to establish a porcelain factory, Sächsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu Potschappel.
