Tea set of the oldest Russian manufactory Gzhel P.28.05
Gzhel (Russian: гжель [ɡʐɛʎ]) – a general name for ceramics made in the village of Gzhel and the surrounding villages. The village is located in the Moscow region of Russia. There are clay deposits here.
The first pottery workshops were established in the area in the 16th century. In the mid-18th century, majolica (jugs, jugs, plates) with colorful decoration on a white surface, as well as hand-made figurines, began to be made here. Around 1800, the first factory producing porcelain dishes was established. The second quarter of the 19th century was the period of the greatest artistic achievements of Gzhel ceramic art in all its branches. In order to obtain fine faience and porcelain, the owners of the factories were constantly improving the composition of the white mass. Gzhel became a forge: many famous masters and creators of their own porcelain and faience factories started as simple workers in Gzhel. In the second half of the 19th century, cobalt blue began to dominate the decoration
At the beginning of the 20th century, ceramic production was concentrated in the hands of the Kuznetsov dynasty, which once came from Gzhel.
