Unique Vase -Chut Thai (ชุด ไทย )Porcelain Thailand 43.5 cm. P.28.57
"Historical Sketch"
Historically, Thai men and women wore a loincloth called a pha chung hang . Men wore a pha chung pendant to cover their waist to mid-thigh, while women wore a pha chung hanging along their waist to well below the knee. Members of the nobility wore silk robes to attend royal affairs. Bare breasts and bare feet were accepted as part of formal Thai dress and are seen in wall paintings, illustrated manuscripts and early photographs until the mid-19th century. Before the 20th century, the main markers of class distinction in Thai clothing were the use of cotton and silk fabrics with printed or woven patterns.
